The Hospital for Endocrine Surgery is the highest volume thyroid/parathyroid/adrenal hospital in the world. It is a COVID-Free hospial--no COVID patients at this hospital. About 90% of our patients live more than 150 miles away and need a hotel so they all stay at one of our 4 partner hotels (listed below) who have taken care of tens of thousands of our patients and are dedicated to your safe, comfortable stay in Tampa. They will provide transportation to-and-from the airport, and to-and-from the new Hospital for Endocrine Surgery. This shuttle service starts at 4:30 am and runs a continuous route between the hotels and the hospital until 8:00 pm. If you fly in to have surgery with us, you will not need a rental car. Our 4 partner hotels will take care of transportation for you. All 4 hotels are right next door to each other in a nice part of town.

How many days do I need to stay in Tampa?

  • ALL PATIENTS FLYING TO TAMPA:
-- Adrenal: Carling Adrenal Center: Almost all adrenal patients will spend one night in the hospital. Thus you will need the night prior (unless you live near by and drive), and then your family will need a place to stay the night of your surgery. The day after you can all drive/fly home.
-- Parathyroid: Norman Parathyroid Center: It is very rare for a parathyroid patient to spend the night in the hospital. So if you fly to Tampa, you typically need 2 hotel nights: the night before your operation and the night of your surgery--you fly home the day after your operation. You do not need to spend a few days in Tampa after your operation--we've done this over 50,000 times and trust us, fly home the morning after your parathyroid operation. If you are driving, you can start driving home a few hours after your operation (somebody drives for you). There is more about this in your Parathyroid Surgery Guide App-so use the app!
-- Thyroid: Clayman Thyroid Center and Scarless Thyroid Center: Talk to your surgeon about this. About 60% of thyroid patients will need to spend the night in the hospital, so your family member will need a place to stay the night of surgery. This typically means 2 hotel nights for half of the thyroid patients, and 3 for the other half (includes the night prior to surgery). Trust us, it's worth it to have the best surgeons in the world--and have ONE operation--not two or three! Ask your surgeon if they expect you to be the 60% that spend the night in the hospital--email him/her.

  • IF YOU ARE DRIVING TO TAMPA
-- Adrenal and Thyroid Driving to Tampa: About half of thyroid patients and almost all adrenal patients spend the night in the hospital after surgery. So you will need a hotel the night of surgery for your family.
-- Parathyroid Driving to Tampa: If you are traveling by car, then you can go home after parathyroid surgery (as long as you have someone to drive you). Some people will want to stick around in Tampa the day of surgery, and this is a particularly good option for older patients or those on blood thinners. About 90% of parathyroid patients who drive to our center from more than 100 miles away will stay in one of our hotels the night before the operation, check out of the hotel early in the morning prior to going to the hospital, and then drive home directly from the recovery room. There is more about this on your Parathyroid Surgery App.

When should I arrive in Tampa?

Usually the afternoon or evening prior to the operation. We will do all the necessary COVID testing via a rapid PCR test the morning of surgery at the hospital. This is a 10-minute rapid PCR test. Our entire hospital is COVID free--we have no COVID patients in our new hospital. It is the safest hospital in the US for your operation.
