Highly commendable for a 5 star patient satisfaction!! Kudos to the Team of Dr . Carling. Had my surgery last March 5,2024. I was diagnosed with pheochromocytoma that needs a total adrenalectomy. I can not express enough gratitude for the exceptional care the team had provided headed by Dr. Tobias Carling because he was able to do partial adrenalectomy saving around 30-40% of my adrenal gland that is potential of not having a lifetime steroid supplement. What an amazing life saving procedure!!! From initial consultation, Dr Carling demonstrated a deep understanding of my unique case being his first encountered patient who had a history of Conn’s syndrome on my right adrenal (-s/p total right adrenalectomy), and now diagnosed with left adrenal pheochromocytoma tumor will put me to a very challenging health concerns. He said “I am very special“ - having 2 tumors on adrenal glands. His abilities to explain the intricacies of the procedure, addressing my great health concerns, with patience and clarity explaining that he will do his best to help me, created my great confidence in him.

I thank God he was able to perform Mini Back Scope Adrenalectomy with 3 small incisions. Removed my 5 cm tumor in less than an hour including my prep. Dr Carling you are endowed with a very special gift that only few possess. Thank you for being a God given instrument, a channel of blessings to me. May you continue to flourish and May God bless you more. To Meredith LaRue - ARNP you are extra ordinarily awesome. Thank you for being so kind in explaining every detail of my pre - op and post - op care. Dr Letzring my anesthesiologist - you are amazing, I did not have any nausea after the surgery. To all the team, and staff of the Endocrine Hospital a Big Thank you. Everyone is phenomenal. Especial thanks also to Gabby Covelli for answering my follow up emails.

I highly recommend Dr Carling, Meredith, and the entire staff at the Endocrine hospital. Dr Carling is extremely professional, and knows what he is doing. I wasn’t getting anywhere with past doctors because of lack of knowledge with Primary Aldosterone. I had to seek a second opinion and thankfully we found the best surgeon, Dr Carling. I’m doing absolutely great and blood pressure is now at levels I haven’t seen since I was a teenager without any blood pressure medicines. I cannot thank you enough. One of the best experiences at a hospital I’ve ever had.

Nearly 6 years ago (at the age of 40) while in the hospital with pneumonia a rare tumor called a pheochromocytoma was inadvertently discovered on my adrenal gland. Since that time, the medical advice I have consistently received was that managing the symptoms of the tumor was the safest course of action at my age because the surgery involved for it's removal was extremely dangerous. My stress level reached an extreme high in October 2023 and I had begun having episodes of tremors, panic attacks, and high blood pressure. This resulted in an emergency room visit with a blood pressure of 200/100. I was advised that I needed to have my adrenal gland removed asap. I was terrified.

From the moment I walked into the Carling Adrenal Center those fears began to subside. Dr. Carling not only put me at ease with the confidence in his procedure and unmatched experience with my rare condition but he was also surprisingly kind, attentive, compassionate and caring. These were not words I had previously associated with surgeons. Every step of the way from that point forward was clearly explained by every medical professional I encountered. I was instilled with calm confidence going into my surgery while being treated with the same kindness and compassion along the way. My surgery only took 30 minutes, required one nights stay in the hospital and now 2 weeks later I am already feeling the life changing improvements in my mind and body.

There aren't enough words to express the gratitude I have for Dr. Carling, his staff and the staff of HCA Endocrine Hospital. I only wish I had found him sooner.

I recently had adrenal gland surgery to remove a tumor and all I can say is that between the hospital and the doctors I had an amazing experience. I felt like I was being "heard" and they cared about why I was there. Surgery went well and healing has been as planned. If you are ever in need to this type or even thyroid surgery this is the place to go. With the new way of removing a tumor off your adrenal gland through the back (30 minutes) versus through your abdomen (2-3 hours) EDITOR: 2-3 hours is a very best case scenario. We have certainly seen worse outcomes than that... this makes this place a 10 in my book! Down time is shorter and recovery so much easier!

I was diagnosed with an adrenal adenoma and had surgery two days ago. Dr Carling was wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable, caring and an expert surgeon. The staff, nurses, aides were wonderful as well. The hospital was clean and very comfortable. The care was excellent. I am feeling well, have minimal pain, and most important my cortisol levels are normal. I feeling better daily. I am so grateful to have Dr Carling and the Carling Adrenal Center so close to my home. I would recommend Dr Carling to anyone who needs adrenal surgery.

I had what was to be a first surgery on 2/13/24, to remove 2 tumors from one adrenal gland; a second surgery was scheduled six weeks later. However, after the first surgery my levels returned to normal and now i can just keep an eye on the other gland/tumor and perhaps it will never cause problems. As for the staff/center, I cannot extol the virtues of this group of health care providers enough. First of all, Dr. Carling and his method of surgery should be the required teaching everywhere. I thank God that I live in Tampa, but it is worth making the trip if you don't. EVERYONE was kind, understanding, considerate...and Dr. Carling speaks to you personally, and has knowledge of your issues and what is on your chart, answers any questions. You are treated kindly and with respect-this is so valuable if you've been dealing with a health issue that has, many times, made you question your sanity....am i imagining all these symptoms....? They perform at superior levels in all aspects: treating the medical issue (DONE!), and treating others like fellow human beings-with value. You all have literally changed my life, taken me from a very dark cave to being to step out into life again. More valuable than gold and you will forever have my gratitude.

(A note as to getting to Dr. Carling, my original Endocrinologist said the cortisol was not my problem and that i could check a year from then....sometimes you have to keep advocating for yourself-YOU know how you feel-my 2nd opinion Endo. suggested Dr. Carling.) Thank God I did not give up-it was tempting.

My husband recently had adrenal surgery at the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery in Tampa Florida. Dr Tobias Carling was his Surgeon. After my husband’s initial phone call with the Carling Adrenal Center, the assistant promptly requested his medical records and set up a consultation with Dr Carling within 2 weeks. Dr Carling explained his diagnosis throughly and recommended surgery. Three weeks later, my husband had robotic surgery (EDITOR: The patient means MBSA, not robotic. As you know, adrelanectomies should never be done with a robot...) to remove the mass and adrenal gland. Dr Carling is the best Adrenal Surgeon in the country. Do your research…everything you learn will point you to Dr Tobias Carling. We are forever grateful to Dr Carling and his team.

Amazing, great service, miracle workers. From the front desk to the surgeon and then recovery team, they are an A+ star team! My surgery at 10 am took 30 minutes to take out a large left adrenal adenoma. I was able to easily walk the floor within 3 hours post surgery! I walked the floor 6 times and was discharged at 10am next day after tests. Dr. Carling is a true master and I can't recommend him enough! No way I'd do an abdominal approach if it can be avoided! Run. Don't walk to Dr. Carling! Thank you, Dr. Carling and EVERYONE at your hospital!

Dr. Carling is a phenomenal surgeon who manages to accomplish what other's say is impossible- remove tumors while sparing the adrenal gland! Dr. Carling is warm, kind, and his team runs like a well-oiled machine. I had the opportunity to see them twice, and both times went extremely well. His NP, Meredith, is also amazing. I had an adrenalectomy for Conn’s syndrome and Cushing’s syndrome by Dr Carling. The staff at the Carling adrenal center made the whole process from becoming a patient through traveling to Tampa for surgery very smooth. If you need adrenal surgery you need to use Dr Carling. He has amazing bedside manner, cares about his patients, is very knowledgeable about adrenal issues and surgery and does the best type of adrenalectomy by using the mini back scope procedure. He’s the most qualified adrenal surgeon in the world. You won’t be disappointed. Meredith, his NP is so thorough and comes to round on you many times a day. She educates you on your condition and what to do after surgery. I was so impressed by the entire process. Don’t trust your adrenal surgery with anyone else!

I had my surgery with Dr. Carling on Feb 22, 2022 and he's an amazing surgeon. I discovered my tumor on my adrenal gland 5-6 years prior to my surgery. Every doctor told me it was nothing to worry about. Over the years I started to lose myself I kept having all these weird symptoms that seemed to be getting worse. I did my research and kept coming back to Dr. Carling. I brought this up to the doctors and they all told me it was very rare for the tumor to be active so I left it alone. My symptoms continued, I kept gaining weight despite dieting. I had numerous bald spots from the hair loss, my face would constantly flush several hours a day and I had marks on my stomach which i was told was just caused by stress. Years later the tumor had grew large enough that the Doctors suggested biopsy and that's when I remembered reading that Dr. Carling said the worst thing to do was biopsy it. So I decided to take my health in my own hands and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Carling. It was the best decision I made. He ordered blood work and diagnosed me with Cushing's and scheduled me to have the tumor and adrenal gland removed. The surgery itself was easy. He did such a good job and the hospital stay was wonderful. I remember him telling me that I added so many more years to my life and that really stuck with me. The recovery hasn't been the easiest as my other adrenal gland hasn't started completely working yet and I'm still on medication but it's getting there. My hair grew back, I haven't flushed once since surgery and i can finally lose weight when i try. I'm down 22 pounds and I'm finally starting to see myself again in the mirror. The most amazing part was there were so many other things that got better that I didn't even realize were being caused by the high cortisol. I can't thank Dr. Carling enough for changing my life.

Update - I got the great news that my other adrenal gland is finally working. I am now down a total of 45 pounds since the surgery and feel great. My Labs have greatly improved and I was able to get off all of my medications. I finally recognize the girl in mirror that I thought I lost forever. Thank you Dr. Carling for giving me my life back!

I highly recommend Dr. Carling and the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery. My experience, from the moment I contacted them, was was very positive and exceeded my expectations. I submitted my on-line paperwork on a Sunday evening and received a call from someone the next morning. The admission staff worked quickly to process my information and scheduled me an online consult with Dr. Carling by the end of the week. Dr. Carling is incredibly knowledgeable, approachable, and explained my situation with clarity in a way that I could understand what needed to be done. He answered all my questions and made me feel completely comfortable that I was in good hands.

Even though I was coming from out of state, it was incredibly easy to fly in, take the complementary shuttle to my hotel, and schedule the free shuttle to the hospital. The hospital even provided free breakfast and lunch for my daughter who came with me. Everything is so organized, that I was free to relax. The staff in the hospital, from the admission staff, housekeeping, transport, along with the doctors and nurses, were friendly and competent in their jobs. Because this hospital specializes in endocrine surgeries, they are incredibly knowledgeable and experienced. They answered all my questions, and told me what to expect every step of the way. Since the hospital is only a few years old, everything is state-of-the-art.

Although no one likes to have surgery, this is the place to go for any type of adrenal, thyroid, or parathyroid surgeries.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have discovered Dr. Tobias Carling. Not only is he an exceptional specialist, but he also exudes genuine care and compassion. His surgical approach is truly revolutionary. Originally scheduled for a surgery in Italy with a projected 5 days of hospitalization and a 3-hour procedure, my experience with Dr. Carling was nothing short of extraordinary. My surgery, under his expertise, lasted a mere 30 minutes, and to my amazement, I was able to leave the clinic the very next day. The facility itself is impeccably clean and boasts a modern atmosphere. Dr. Carling's team, including the nurses, is a testament to professionalism and genuine care. The decision to travel to Tampa for Dr. Carling's expertise in adrenal problems was undoubtedly worthwhile. I can wholeheartedly affirm that he is, without a doubt, the best in his field.

After my diagnosis of a Cushing Syndrome, I had my adrenal surgery on August 9th, 2023. I'm a Canadian and even though our health care system is free, I decided that Carling Adrenal Center was the evident choice. Dr Carling and his entire team were above expectations. From the minute I had my first consultation and all through the steps of my surgery, I really felt that he knew what he was doing. He had answers to all my questions, the entire team was very helpful, professional and empathetic even for my husband who accompanied me (I'm from Quebec City). My recovery from the surgery was amazing, I never took not even a Tylenol for pain, I was traveling back home 2 days after the surgery without a problem and I was jogging within 2 weeks. The follow up post surgery is also excellent, every time I could reach Meredith promptly and get answers to my questions. If this was to do again I would not hesitate to choose the Carling team therefore I highly recommend them.

From the moment I contacted Dr. Carling’s office to discuss my condition, I was met with a level of professionalism and efficiency rare in today’s complex medical world.

My information and medical records were transferred with ease. Scheduling for a telephone call with the doctor was made to personally discuss my surgery and final arrangements for my adrenelectomy were made within a few days.

I was kept continuously informed by e mail and telephone of my pending surgery by a team of experienced administrators who prepared me for what to expect and also covered all aspects of my insurance coverage.

Flights and hotels were easily booked with assistance from Dr. Carling’s website to include complimentary transfers to and from Tampa airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the hospital. No need to rent a car. Barbara drives the hospital transport with great consideration for her patients.

Upon arrival for surgery at 6.30am I had an easy registration with wonderful Pat and was then whisked through to pre-op where Head nurse Barbara and her team answered all questions and prepped me. She introduced me to marvelous Dr. Shaw who would be doing my anaesthesia and then a final CT scan with Maghda.

Without exception the smoothness and ease with which each team member interacted with each other and with me the patient made me understand that I was in trusted, experienced and compassionate hands at all times. Dr. Carling’s team is truly a wonder and it says a great deal about him that they all work so seamlessly together to provide an exceptional level of care.

My overnight was as comfortable as it could be and the nursing staff went out of their way to help with the smallest request. I could not believe that after a visit from Dr. Carling and Meredith the following morning at 8.30am that I was on my way home. 100% success in removing the tumor, (photos provided!) minimal pain and the kindest team of medical professionals I have ever experienced.

I have had four previous surgeries in some of the ‘top’ hospitals in the country and none compare to the Carling Adrenal Center.

I was a recent patient at Carling Adrenal Center at the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery. The rare tumor on my adrenal gland required an experienced adrenal gland physician with extensive and updated surgical methods. A local urologist in Ohio told me that the tumor on my adrenal gland "was nothing" and that it could not be causing my frequency of urination. I was afraid to use a physician who had infrequent acquaintance with adrenal gland surgery. I had a call from Dr. Carling to address fears, concerns and questions about my upcoming surgery. He is in Tampa Florida and I live in Ohio. I flew into Florida on Sunday, had laparoscopy (editor: the mini back scope adrenalectomy; MBSA) surgery with professional assistance from caring staff members, and flew home on the following Sunday. I had a one night hospital stay in a beautiful, private room only facility with staff who answered call lights immediately, provided time to answer questions, and to listen to my needs as a surgical patient.

The food offered was healthy and tasteful. Free food service was available for my sister caregiver. The staff were professional, facility was clean, and the process of admission was thorough. I am free of extreme lightheaded episodes, frequent urination and extreme blood pressure fluctuations that were previously unexplained. I am extremely grateful to the Carling Adrenal Center for their expertise and kindness. Please do not hesitate to use physicians who specialize in adrenal and endocrine surgery!

Did you google best adrenal surgeon in the USA and see Dr. Carling? Then did you think this is too good to be true or "hey, they can pay google to be on top?" After seeing 3 surgeons who all wanted to remove my adrenal gland (one through my abdomen robotically), Dr. Carling stayed in the back of my mind. I am/was bilateral so what happens in the future if I need the other adrenal gland removed? Why were the surgeons so quick to say, we remove the entire gland. Now I know. You must have a skilled surgeon to remove only the tumor. My experience with Dr. Carling and the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery could not have been better. Dr. Carling is an excellent surgeon. He called and informed me that he thought I was a good candidate for tumor removal. (Another weird thing as the only in person meeting for me was prior to going under, but trust me that's ok especially if like me you are specifically going to Tampa for surgery.) He removed my tumor and saved part of my adrenal gland. In around 17 minutes he had me in and out of surgery (vs 2 hours from other surgeons). I was able to tolerate the pain with only tylenol for my overnight stay and the following day. The hospital is immaculate and all rooms are private. The "Care Team" nurses were professional, friendly, not overworked or stressed, always asking if there was anything I needed with a smile. I highly recommend Dr. Carling for anyone who needs adrenal surgery. Thank you Dr. Carling!

I was referred to Dr. Carling by my endocrinologist for a tumor on my left adrenal gland. From the initial phone call to set up a consultation with Dr. Carling to the follow up after surgery, Dr. Carling and his whole staff were top notch, very professional, pleasant and caring! At my consultation Dr. Carling explained everything to me and answered all my questions. He really put me at ease with the surgery procedure. Meredith, his Nurse Practitioner, called me after the surgery to check on me and was very helpful answering any questions that I had. I would 100% recommend Dr. Carling and the Carling Adrenal Center!

Dr. Carling and his team are amazing. I would gladly give them all 10 stars. As soon as I found out I had Pheochromocytoma & my doctor referred me to Dr. Carling for surgery, I completed the online form and was contacted immediately by his staff. They were very efficient, friendly and encouraging as I went through the initial process. Dr. Carling called me prior to surgery and went through a thorough explanation of what the procedure would be like, answering all my questions. The Hospital for Endocrine Surgery is a beautiful facility, they gave me a private room and treated me & my husband like family. They had a recliner for him and fed both of us – felt like we were at a 5 star Resort. The staff made sure I was okay and Dr. Carling came in before and after surgery to check on me and answer any questions I might have. I appreciated his expertise as well as the friendly and caring nurses and staff on site. After the surgery they made sure I had everything I needed to recover at home and called to check on me a few days later. I went through the mini back scope adrenalectomy operation with 3 incisions. The tumor was just under 2” & they gave me a photograph of it. Most of my adrenal gland was saved. I went back to my desk job after just one week at home. I love the care, compassion and respect that I received. I have never before had surgery where I didn’t get sick when waking up from the anesthesia, but they made sure they did everything they could to avoid that – & I did not get nauseated at all. Thank God I only had to drive 2 hours to get to Tampa but I definitely see why people travel from all over the world to seek Dr. Carlings care. There is some pain involved in the recovery, but most of it can be reduced by icing and Extra Strength Tylenol. I stayed a little puffy and swollen after surgery for about a week, but that is to be expected. Dr. Carling and the entire staff are phenomenal! From the moment I arrived through the recovery process. The entire process is extremely well organized. I am so very grateful for Dr. Carling and the entire staff at Hospital for Endocrine Surgery. Thank you & God Bless each of you!

10 weeks post adrenalectomy and I Feel AMAZING! Had my surgical follow up with Dr Horinek and EVERYTHING IS STABLE. He upgraded me from Stage 3b Kidney Failure to only Stage 1. All blood work came back completely stable and normalized except my BUN which is slightly elevated. Nothing a little hydration won't fix. I'm down to only 15 units of insulin with my glucose running in the 70's so we are going to tapper insulin completely off and transition to Farxiga. Which will further help the kidneys. He is completely shocked at my recovery. I have lost 3 & 1/2 pants sizes and 71lbs. My blood pressures are completely normal! No more labile resistant hypertension! No hypokalemia! No hyponatremia, No hypomagnesemia, No more anemia, No muscle cramps! Thank you and Dr Carling & the entire Carling Adrenal Center team!

I had a surgery on 28th of June. I wanted to leave a statement how grateful I am for all the cares I got by Dr. Carling and his team. I flew all the way from Bulgaria to Tampa, because I read about Dr. Carling and his innovative approach for surgery of adrenal gland. For almost a year I was struggling with weight gain, changes of my face (round face), but now Dr. Carling assured me that most likely I will slowly go back to my previous shape!!!! So, in brief, I would recommend to everyone who has any issues with adrenal gland to approach Dr. Carling. I did it and I think this was the best choice I made! Highly appreciate all the team and organisation! Thanks again Dr. Carling and the team

My wife had been struggling with erratic blood pressure for more than 5 years. When it was finally determined that the tumor on her right adrenal gland needed to be removed, the specialist at Beaumont Hospital in Michigan couldn’t do the surgery due to her many abdominal surgeries, along with a mesh from a stomach separation. After failed attempts in finding any surgeons to perform this from the back, we luckily stumbled on to Dr Carling. As I write this post, my wife has completed her surgery successfully and is on the mend. It was an unparalleled experience from all aspects. Dr. Carling is simply the best. We are grateful for him, his exceptional staff and the adrenal center. Thank you!

The Carling Adrenal Center is a first class hospital and wish I would have contacted them sooner. The process from intake to surgery was handled wonderfully! My 17 year old daughter was showing signs of Cushing's and we were dismissed by many doctors in Cleveland even though she had an adrenal adenoma. While researching her symptoms I came across Dr. Carling's website which gave me a wealth of information and helped me advocate for her health. Once, I found out my insurance would cover the cost in Tampa, we both knew Dr. Carling was the best best choice for removal. Flew in night before, surgery was less than 30 minutes and stayed two days after discharged before flying home. The recovery time has been really good for her and was able to manage pain with Tylenol. She will be on hydrocortisone until her other adrenal gland wakes up and they gave us clear instructions after surgery until we seen her local endocrinologist. She graduated high school two weeks and 1 day after the surgery. Looking at this picture you would never know she had surgery just over 2 weeks ago. Thank you Dr. Carling and The Adrenal Center!!!

From entry to discharge my experience was astounding, the Center does everything to make you and your guests feel comfortable and relaxed. All of your staff for your procedure come to meet and greet you and even Dr Carling comes in to explain the procedure. They inform you of everything that is happen before it is done so that you are totally relaxed and I was able to walk out after only a day. I love the care, compassion and respect that I was treated with as I had a difficult time with the anesthesia and couldn't hold anything down. My nurse watched over me with much concern like I was her child.

I felt totally amazed by by my experience and know why people travel afar to see Dr Carling and His Staff. However, there is some pain involved in the recovery. You need to maintain your medication schedule to avoid this and to keep it at a tolerable level. I also recommend a heating pad as it was very helpful in reducing the pain without an increase in medication. I mostly just used the Extra Strength Tylenol. You may feel much better from your extra ailments very soon after as in my case but remember that it is also a surgery so you may or may not have pain for over a week after.

Dr. Carling was amazing and I appreciated his knowledge, directness, and experience in our consultation and his attention to detail on the day of surgery. He was patient to answer all of my questions before and after surgery and was able to completely remove my adrenal tumor in less than half an hour of surgery. I am now 2 weeks post-op and healing really well. Meredith has been easy to get in touch with when had questions after being discharged. I highly, HIGHLY recommend Dr. Carling and his entire crew. After seven years of research, seven years of numerous emergency room visits, numerous hospitalizations, hundreds of thousands of dollars just to be told there's nothing we can do. Couple weeks ago my renal doctor told me "We need help!" He asked me to see his mentor, I agreed saying then you have to see my mentor! He agreed and asked me who that was. I told him God is who I go to. He agreed and the next day we were researching new information on pheochromocytoma and seven articles came up by Dr. Carling. This led us to his website and within a week I had a consultation. I had to start cardio workouts and lose 10 to 20lbs before surgery and by week 3 I was in Tampa Florida prepping for surgery. God's perfect time!! I didn't realize how much I was merely surviving each day until I didn't feel it anymore. I am a completely new person today! No words can ever truly express the gratitude I have for Dr Carling and his team for giving me a renewed hope in medicine and a new chance at life!! I am 5 days post op and feeling amazing with my blood pressure completely normalized. I will tell anyone and every who will listen how amazing you all are! - Much Love and Thanks

I came to Dr. Carling with an aldosterone producing adrenal tumor. It took over 10 years to get a diagnosis for this issue from my doctors at home. The tumor was causing high blood pressure and other issues. Dr. Carling’s remedy was much easier than my doctors at home. There were no surprises after the less invasive procedure. My blood pressure and other adrenal issues have now normalized. The facility is new and clean. The staff was friendly and accommodating to me and my family.

BLUF: Dr. Carling saved my life. It is one year since I finally learned I had primary hyperaldosteronism. I had been taking a daily dose 40 mg of prescription potassium for almost 30 years and no one knew why. I had hypothyroidism and my full thyroid removed almost 20 years ago, but still felt terrible. I would swell up and my muscles cramped and hurt all the time. I was jittery inside but tired all the time. I gained weight but lots of it was fluid retention. My blood pressure went up and up and up. Over time I went from taking the lowest dose of one BP medicine to the highest doses of 4 BP medicines plus a high dose water tablet and 2 potassium pills every single day. I felt and looked bad. I had 3 stroke level ER visits over a 2 year span with BP of 220/120 and higher. The last time I left the ER I felt like I would die if I had that happened again because it was occurring closer together and the new or higher dose BP medicine wasn’t working at all.

My sister found Dr. Carling for her parathyroid problems, and we figured out I likely had an adrenal tumor. I finally begged the nephrologist to order the CT scan after I did the Renin bloodwork on my own and it was abnormal. On Valentine’s Day in 2022 they found the tumor. JOY! I was processed very quickly into Dr. Carling’s surgery schedule and had my left adrenal gland was removed March 23, 2022. I actually had 3 tumors and 2 were producing aldosterone…slowly killing me. I did not take potassium the very next day after surgery! I am now on one mid-level dose BP medicine and think I’ll eventually get off of it. I am not swollen all the time. I don’t hurt like I did. I have not had any crazy high blood pressure readings in a year! I feel so calm inside. Praise to GOD for helping me find Dr. Carling and his very caring, competent, friendly staff. They saved my life.

I have been experiencing symptoms for over six years. I have had muscle weakness, primarily in my legs that limited my walking to only short distances at times. I had a pounding fast heartbeat with discomfort behind my sternum, especially after any physical activity. I had severe muscle cramps in my upper legs that would last for 15 to 30 minutes and involuntary muscle switching, hand tremors and occasionally upper body tremors. In the last few months, I developed blurry vision and had episodes of kaleidoscope vision. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Disease four years ago, but Synthroid did not resolve my symptoms. I did not have high blood pressure which I believe is common with adrenal tumors. I was tested for neurological, endocrine, and cardiac diseases with no diagnosis. I even spent a week at the Mayo Clinic.

I was aware that my older brother had died from a heart attack caused by an adrenal tumor when he was 53 years old. After having a cat scan for diverticulosis six years ago, I learned I had an incidental adenoma, not from the doctor or hospital, but reading the report myself. I brought this to the attention of my endocrinologist who performed blood and urine tests annually. Every other year since, I had another cat scan. These tests did not raise any red flags that my adrenal tumor was the issue.

After about two years of being seriously ill, my symptoms slowly dissipated, and I seemed to be back to normal. Then, the symptoms began to come back after about three years. First, I noticed my legs were getting weak again and the severe muscle cramps returned. I started to have a rapid pounding heartbeat after any level of physical activity. I could not even tolerate my thyroid medications because they made my symptoms worse.

My wife found Dr. Carling’s website and I applied to become a patient. Dr. Carling’s team obtained my medical records, and I received a telephone call to arrange my first appointment. Since I live in New York and I was very ill, I had my appointment with Dr. Carling via a teleconference call.

Dr. Carling felt certain that my illness was caused by the adrenal tumor despite the “normal” previous test results in New York. Dr. CarIing told me the surgery would take about 30 minutes and would be performed with a mini scope. I was told I would stay overnight after the surgery and be discharged the next day. With no other viable alternative, I decided to have the surgery, which was arranged for in less than three weeks.

I arrived at the Carling Adrenal Center at 6:15 a.m. and I was so impressed with the kindness and professionalism of every person I encountered. I received a cat scan and underwent blood tests and was prepped for surgery and anesthesia at 8:00 a.m. Dr. Carling visited me before surgery and assured me that I would be cured by the surgery. At 9:00 a.m. I went to the operating room. The next thing I knew, I was in recovery and a short time later I was in a private room until the next morning. During the night, my blood was tested to monitor my cortisol level. Everything was normal and Dr. Carling visited me before I was discharged before noon.

From the time I woke up after the surgery, all of my symptoms were gone except for a short period of time then my heart rate was over 100 bpm after taking the recommended walks in the hallway. I received a medication for the heart rate one time and after that my heart rate has been normal.

Dr. Carling has given me my life back. I felt certain that I was going to have a heart attack or a stroke before I had the surgery. I am so grateful to Dr. Carling for what he has done for me and so many others. Somehow, the rest of the medical profession has to learn to treat adrenal disease as Dr. Carling does. He is light years ahead of everyone else.

Thank you, Dr. Carling, and everyone at the Carling Adrenal Center!

I had no other surgery to compare my experience with except a wrist reduction. Dr. Carling called this experience a slam dunk. I label it painless. I know that it is unbelievable that all I’ve had since surgery is extra strength Tylenol, One the evening after surgery, the other one the next night. I give thanks to God, Dr. Carling who has perfected great skill, and to the PCP I finally found who would investigate the reason for my problems instead of adding medication after medication.

Dr Carling is a excellent adrenal gland surgeon. The best in the USA. If not for him I would have had to have both of my adrenal glands taken. He did a partial sparing adrenalectomy where he takes out the tumors and save about 15 precent of tissue where you don't have to be on hormone therapy replacement for the rest of your life. People please do your research like I did if you ever need to have adrenal surgery.

Please let me start by saying that I was NOT a straight forward case. I am a Cornell trained veterinarian so I had a good understanding of adrenal function to start and it took me 8 years of chronic illness to get endocrinologists to test me appropriately and to find Dr. Carling. Dr. Carling literally has saved my life- as so many other patients have said in their reviews. Not only is he the best adrenal specialist I have encountered (I encountered many at NYC hospitals), he is also a kind, caring, warm person. First of all I had Conn's syndrome (hyperaldosteronism) but an atypical case in that my renin was always normal (not suppressed), an adrenal sampling assessed bilateral disease, and I did not have classical hypertension. I was hypertense FOR ME because I had always had hypotension my entire life.

I also had episodic Cushing's disease. I had all of the symptoms- truncal obesity, thinning hair, thin skin, insomnia, tachycardia, buffalo hump, and many others. Each endocrinologist would take one look at me and say - "You have Cushing's". Then they would run one test and tell me it was negative. I had been pleading with drs for years to test me serially for Cushings but could not find one who would until this past August. I had elevated 24 hour urines more than half the time. Even then that doctor was fixated on my pituitary gland (which was scanned 3 times as normal) because my adrenal scans were misread and downgraded from a nodule to "mild thickening" making endocrinologists think it was unlikely to be causing all of my issues. I recall all of this because I want other patients who are knowledgeable about both Conn's and Cushing's to see I was an atypical case. Dr. Carling took one look at my 85 pages of labs and 4 abdominal scans and called it correctly. He told me that my left adrenal gland was absolutely diseased (nodular, not just mildly thickened) and the right was normal. That I had episodic Cushing's and that was why some of my numbers were bouncing around making it difficult for endocrinologists to call it.

He reassured me that left adrenalectomy would be something he would do if it were himself and that there was a very good chance I would feel better afterwards. He was right. When my left adrenal gland was removed I saw a picture of it and almost half of it was full of nodules. It stained positive for aldosterone synthase. My cortisol dropped dramatically post-op. I am currently only 5 weeks post-op. I can sleep through the night again. I no longer have horrible tachycardia. I have stopped sweating excessively. My mood is amazing - back to my old positive self. It is like someone took off these dreadful sad glasses and gave me back my normal attitude. I am exercising again. I am looking forward to slowly losing all this weight. Dr. Carling reassured me to be patient - it takes time (maybe 6 months) to feel all the positive effects.

The hospital staff were amazing - especially my nurses. They were so educated about my disease and so reassuring (call out to Karen and Biji). And Dr. Carling- he called me Dr. on our first consult (thank you for that...vet school was hard). He knew my husband's first name when I mentioned he was on the call. He knew all 85 pages of my lab work like it was his own. He hugged me, held my hand, reassured me pre- and post-op. He is an absolute gem of a person. And he is an adrenal expert like no other in this country. I would turn to him immediately for any adrenal disease. He is worth the time, any expense, and travel (I drove to Tampa from NYC region). All I hope for is that other patients who are struggling with adrenal disease find reassurance in my review. Even if you have a difficult kind of case and have been discouraged by endocrinologists. Please reach out to Dr. Carling and have him consult you. He was put on this earth for a special reason- I truly believe that. Thank you Dr. Carling and all the staff for giving me my life back. I will never forget you.

My experience with pheochromocytoma began with extremely painful splitting headaches, racing heart rate, feelings of panic, and extremely high blood pressures of over 200/120 mm Hg. My symptoms led to a 24 hour urinary metanephrines test. My normetanephrine level was almost 4000 mcg in a 24 hour period compared to a normal level of 75-375 mcg. This extremely elevated normetanephrine level led to a high suspicion for pheochromocytoma, which was confirmed by an abdominal MRI which found a 5.5 cm cystic right adrenal gland mass. I was thus diagnosed with pheochromocytoma - a tumor of chromaffin cells which produce epinephrine and norepinephrine.

I met with several endocrine surgeons around the country, but Dr. Tobias Carling was simply the best. His incredibly high case volume and his world-class expertise on adrenalectomies were unparalleled. The ideal surgeon is one who has performed the procedure countless times, and Dr. Carling had that surgical history. His emphasis on the choice of the retroperitoneal approach for the removal of adrenal tumors was extremely important. The retroperitoneal approach uses incisions on the flank and back to access the retroperitoneal space directly where the adrenal glands are located. Most surgeons still currently prefer the transabdominal approach simply because they are more familiar with that approach despite the many advantages conferred by the retroperitoneal approach. As a result, patients will have scar tissue from the transabdominal approach in both the abdominal wall and the peritoneal wall internally compared to the retroperitoneal approach which only has scar tissue on the exterior of the flank and back.

During my in-person consultation with Dr. Carling at the Carling Adrenal Center, he examined the imaging I had brought and patiently explained the entire procedure and answered every question I had - even the technical questions about the advantages of the retroperitoneal approach and the possible risks of manipulating the tumor. He was never arrogant or impatient despite my many questions. His answers revealed the depth of his knowledge on the matter. I truly felt like he had the two most important qualities of a surgeon: technical skill and genuine care for the patient's well-being.

The Hospital for Endocrine Surgery in Tampa is an exceptional hospital driven by exceptional dedication on the part of the staff. Dr. Tobias Carling and Dr. Vimal Shah provided outstanding care for me on the day of my surgery. Meredith LaRue was so helpful with the post-operative care. Despite the extra adhesion of my tumor to the inferior vena cava, Dr. Carling was able to accomplish total resection of the adrenal tumor while leaving 10% of the unaffected adrenal cortex. Scarring was minimal with one round scar and one thin linear scar on my side and back. Even while facing a daunting diagnosis and surgery, I could at least be assured of how I was in the care of the best endocrine surgeon and team for the job. Dr. Carling saved my life with his skill and care. I have no doubt that I received the absolute best possible surgical care from him and the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery for which I will be forever grateful.

For the past year I had been suffering intermittently from high blood pressure and high heart rate. With no known cause. Unbeknownst to me and I would later find out, I had a tumor on my left adrenal gland. My primary doctor, over the course of this year, kept trying to convince me that what I was experiencing was anxiety. I had endured numerous emergency room visits due to my heart rate and I have also worn two Holter monitors. the diagnosis: tachycardia. My cardiologist then put me on Atenolol, a beta blocker, to reduce the tachycardia events and lower my blood pressure, which did help tremendously. Later, I found out I was suffering from mild left ventricular hypertrophy that was discovered on an ECHO, which is indicative of on-going high blood pressure, which for the most part was silent; until later this year as my symptoms progressed.

I started digging through medical files from the past year. I discovered, on a CT scan, I had a left adrenal adenoma. I immediately started making doctor appointments and trying to connect the dots. Why wasn’t this ever discussed with me before? How was this overlooked? So many questions swirling around my brain. But nobody seemed to have an answer for me. In the interim, I had come across Dr. Carling’s website that is not only filled to the brim with information but it also makes it palatable for all readers to grasp beyond basic knowledge of adrenal tumors. Forearmed is forwarded, right? I read every single page of the website numerous times. I felt competent enough to address the issue with my doctors. In those moments, I came to a startling realization: That I now probably know more about adrenal tumors, than most of the doctors I have been dealing with. From that moment forward, I knew with certainty, that Dr. Carling would be the surgeon that was going to help me find relief.

During my consultation with Dr. Carling, he had mentioned that some adrenal hormones are cyclical. Meaning that they’re not always going to show high values unless you’re having an “episode”. He presented me with two options. The first option was to wait a year and see what happens. The second option was to go ahead and remove it now. The answer was clear. Why would I wait for the damage to get worse and more debilitating than it already is? I took a chance and I scheduled the surgery. The surgery was quick and I was awake and walking in the halls late that same evening. The next morning, Dr. Carling did a stim test to check my adrenal function. When he came into my room that morning to go over everything, he said “this was definitely a cortisol producing tumor.”

I was able to fly back to Chicago from Tampa within two days of surgery. I am now two-weeks post-op and I haven’t had to take my Atenolol since the day of surgery. Both my heart rate and my blood pressure has maintained normal levels. This was a long story, and probably a typical story in the day and life of Dr. Carling. However, I can’t help but to think what my life would have been like a year from now; had I of not done this surgery when I did. A bigger tumor would have probably meant bigger symptoms, thus, bigger problems.

My tumor was small but also mighty. It attacked my body in stealth mode without a notable trace. A trace, aside from my symptoms, that didn’t become visible until after Dr. Carling removed the tumor and ran post-op lab work and without doubt was able to diagnose the excessive cortisol that was infiltrating my body. I’m SO excited to be sitting here healing from a successful surgery rather than waiting a year with terrifying symptoms. If you’re reading this and you have any reservations or doubt, please call Dr. Carling! My biggest take away from this experience, and advice to others, is to never ignore even the smallest of tumors and never ignore your symptoms. Small tumors can cause just as much problems as large ones, but they do their damage much more silently. For this reason, you need an expert like Dr. Carling to review your case. Most doctors will not be attuned to how these tumors operate so sneakily.

The entire experience from start to finish has truly has been the blessing that I needed. I thank you, Dr. Carling, with my whole heart.

After 5 years of being told I suffer from anxiety attacks that caused episodes of extreme spikes in my blood pressure, headaches, heart palpitations, sweating and shortness of breath, a tumor was accidentally found on my adrenal gland after I had a kidney stone. Turns out all my symptoms were the result of a pheochromocytoma. I had a hard time finding a surgeon willing and able to perform the surgery. I just happened to find Dr Carling while doing a Google search of my symptoms. I am SO grateful I found him. Not only is he the BEST surgeon for this type of tumor, but he is the NICEST medical professional I have ever met. His entire staff is kind and caring. Dr. Carling did my surgery on Nov 8 and I have never felt better. You only need to travel to see him once for your surgery, but somehow they make you feel like they are with you ever step of the way and that you are the most important patient. I can't say enough nice things about Dr Carling.

While this review is lengthy, I feel it necessary to explain what a wonderful team and surgeon Dr Carling has and is.

After having horrible symptoms of high anxiety, night sweats, headaches, muscle soreness and the list goes on, it was discovered I had tumors growing on both of my adrenal glands in June of 2022. While most of my doctors agreed the tumors needed to be removed ASAP, none of them knew of any surgeons in Colorado, or anywhere else, that could remove the tumors without removing my entire adrenal glands. As I have so many times in the past, I immediately began doing my own research as I personally did not want to be on steroids for the rest of my life, if at all possible

I was so overjoyed when I came across the Carling Adrenal Institute, their website was so informative and my intuition was that I found the right place for my surgery. WOW, my intuition was spot on!!!

From the first time I reached out, Sara, Dr Carling’s coordinator, was immediately and continuously in touch with me. I filled out the new patient form and uploaded all tests I had to date. Caridad, Dr Carling’s nurse in his office, immediately got in touch with me to provide additional blood work needed. Once I had those blood tests done, Dr Carling immediately reviewed all my tests and a virtual consultation was set up immediately. After talking with Dr Carling, we absolutely, with 100% certainty, knew he was the right surgeon. Within no time flat, I had a date for surgery.

Unfortunately, my surgery date was scheduled for the day prior to Hurricane Ian. Since Ian was originally forecasted to hit Tampa, my surgery was cancelled as the hospital and our hotel was in the mandatory evacuation zone. My husband and I immediately went to Dr Carling’s ofc and the front desk administrator (apologize we did not write down her name), had Caridad come out to talk to us. She immediately put me on the schedule for the following Tuesday as we did not want to fly back to Colorado without having the surgery.

On the day of surgery, Oct 4th, we arrived at the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery. Our first interaction with the check in team was awesome! Eddie was absolutely wonderful working the main check-in desk, he is excellent at his job and on top of everything! Sandra, who actually did the check in paperwork, was also awesome. She didn’t just check us in but continued to monitor us sitting in the waiting room and ensuring we were taken back to the pre-op room.

Barbara, the pre-op nurse, was excellent and we felt right at home! Lori, who did my IV, was also excellent and both were extremely kind and down to earth! While in the pre-op waiting area, Dr Carling’s surgical nurse Meredith, came to see us. WOW, what a beautiful soul Meredith is, she spent ample time with us and answered any and all questions we had in layman terms. Both my husband and I immediately fell in love with her, her knowledge and her personal interaction with us. The next individual we interacted with was the anesthesiologist, Dr Shaw, another team member that was absolutely wonderful and took the time to explain everything for surgery and yet, was so personable at the same time! When it was time to take me to get the pre-op CT Scan, even Tequaila, the individual who took me back for the scan, was also absolutely wonderful. After the CT Scan results were available, Dr Carling came to talk with my husband and I. He is just as great in person as he was on the virtual call, so down to earth, very knowledgeable, skilled and again, explained anything and everything in laymen terms. Our entire experience up to this point was the best experience we have EVER had in any medical environment!

I was taken for surgery and within 35 mins, Dr Carling called my husband to let him know the surgery went great! Seriously 35 mins and he had the tumor out of me (approximately a 3.5-inch tumor) and was able to save 20% of my adrenal gland. If I would have had the surgery anywhere else, it would have been a minimum of a 2-hour surgery and they would not have saved any of my adrenal gland!

Once in the recovery room, I had woken quite quickly and met Josie, the recovery nurse assigned to me. Josie was on top of her game and another beautiful soul. I was in the post-op recovery room for quite some time due to lack of beds in the hospital, mainly due to everyone being rescheduled from the week prior due to Hurricane Ian. I was perfectly fine waiting in the recovery room and was amazed at the team work I was witnessing. Michelle, the charge nurse, was also outstanding at her job. Her leadership skills were awesome and I completely understood why everyone loved working in this environment. As a patient, it totally reflected on the wonderful care everyone was receiving.

Once I was transferred to a bed, I was under the care of nurse Maureen during the evening and was absolutely wonderful. Karen, the night nurse, was just as awesome and since I spent the majority of my stay with her, I can’t express how knowledgeable, experienced, and down-to-earth she was - such a beautiful and caring individual!

The next morning, after I had completed the simulation test to determine if my left adrenal was now functioning properly, Dr Carling and his nurse, Meredith , came to see me and my husband. Again, I can’t express how wonderful these two individuals are and what an OUTSTANDING team they make! I seriously wanted to jump up and down when they relayed that I really did not need to do any further follow-up tests, for my adrenal, as it was now functioning normally. Though I could not jump up and down quite yet, I did hoot and holler and was so very thankful to both of them and the ENTIRE team! I was soon released from the hospital and within 2 days was on a plane back to Colorado.

While I still have the tumor on the right side, as Dr Carling explained, it is too dangerous to remove at this time. In addition, 95% of people with two tumors never need the second tumor removed. I will only have to have the second one removed if it ever starts to create issues. Dr Carling DOES NOT do unnecessary tests or procedures just because, he only recommends ongoing tests if absolutely warranted. From an ongoing perspective we will just monitor the second tumor with my primary doc in Colorado.

Please, look no further if you are looking for a more than qualified surgeon - Dr Carling is 1000% the right individual in our book!

While it is unfortunate that we did not document everyone’s name that cared for me, I can honestly state this was the best experience my husband and I ever had, from a medical stand point! There was absolutely no one who was not on top of their game or genuinely cared!

We reached out to Dr. Carling’s office via email and he personally emailed me back immediately. From that moment forward, our experience with his office was both personal and efficient. He was informative and his staff bent over backwards to facilitate our needs.

My daughter had been seen by six different specialists prior to finding Dr. Carling, and none of them could identify the source of her symptoms (acute onset of mental health issues such as fear and panic; racing heart; fatigue; occasionally passing out, and various other symptoms). They said the small mass on her Adrenal gland was not likely causing a problem. They dismissed it and us. We had no diagnosis prior to our surgery and Dr. Carling made no guarantee that it would help. Dr. Carling reviewed the scans and labwork we provided and he weighed the pros and cons of a surgery with us. We opted to try the surgery and we are so happy and relieved that we did. Before surgery began, my daughter had a resting heart rate that was high enough the pre-op nurse feared we should cancel the procedure, but the anesthesiologist was so acquainted with adrenal issues that he assured her it was a symptom of what we were there to fix, and to keep going. If we had been at a general surgery center I suspect they would have canceled the operation. Being at an adrenal-specific surgery center mattered. From the moment my daughter awakened after surgery, her symptoms improved. The results were faster and more complete than we had even hoped. Symptoms we did not realize were related were relieved by the 15 minute operation. Menstrual pain was relieved, sweaty hands are now dry- random and unexpected improvements resulted from that short operation! It is still astounding to realize that we would have been left to suffer the symptoms indefinitely if not for the Carling Adrenal Center.

Dr. Carling made no promises he could not keep, yet he delivered on a scale we could not have imagined. I strongly recommend his practice and this procedure to anyone who may be having any adrenal issues.

14 years ago, I had my first panic attack in Europe. Doctors told me that I have anxiety due to chest pain, heart palpitations 120 beats per minute, sweating, dizziness, and they prescribed me antidepressants. A year later, when I returned to America to get antidepressants, I had to do a stress test and visit a cardiologist. The cardiologist told me that my system is accelerated 75 percent more than in normal people and that I should not take antidepressants because they are not healthy, but to use beta blocker metoprolol tart. That will reduce my rapid heart rate and regulate the pressure and I won't have panic attacks anymore. I used beta blockers for two years and when I was in a different state I stopped using them. After that I didn't use any tablets anymore just to get used to not having to deal with all the symptoms and it became normal to me because I didn't know any better. Later I had a sinus infection and used antibiotics that destroyed my intestinal flora and I got C.diff. In the emergency room when I did a cat scan they found that I had a mass on the adrenal gland. After that I went to the specialist and she told me she knew the best Dr. Tobias Carling and he will remove my tumor in just 20 minutes. And I called and made an appointment. Doctor Tobias Carling scheduled an operation for me on 9-21-2022.

Doctor Tobias Carling is very knowledgeable and explained everything to me about the operation. On day of surgery I was a little nervous but trusted his expertise and knowledge. It was my first operation. When I arrived at the hospital for endocrine surgery. All the staff were top notch. Everyone was kind and understanding. The surgery went well. Prior to discharge Dr. Carling visited me, he provided me with after care information and wished me well. I didn't even have any severe pain, maybe from 1-10 I would say 3. Today is the second day, I have already arrived home and I feel great. I no longer feel an accelerated vital system, and for the first time after 14 years, my heartbeat is 74 beats per minute. Now I feel like a calm sea, and all this time there was a storm in my body. I was blessed to have met him. I would highly recommend him to everyone. He is a brilliant surgeon! Absolutely the best! Thank you Doctor Tobias Carling!!!

This was a great experience from consult to admissions to surgery to postoperative. Everyone was friendly, efficient, caring and professional. Hospital was bright and clean. Dr. Carling was excellent as was the staff. The sense of commraderie amongst the staff put me at ease. They even looked after the person accompanying me with free food and comfortable work stations and waiting areas. We traveled from Pennsylvania and it was the smartest thing we could have done. They even guide you through travel accommodations. My procedure was successful and post op has gone smoothly. I am a physician and without hesitation recommend this doctor and facility for excellent care.

Acts swiftly, does not send you for expensive, additional tests when you already have what is needed as far as documentation. Dr. Carling did more for me in 20 minutes than all combined doctors and hospitals of 20 years. Payor sources should start here and work backwards. Would save millions of dollars and lives. Very grateful.

Back in April 2021, a routine CT of the chest discovered a 4.5cm tumor in my L adrenal gland. Being a resident of Vero Beach, my only choice for care is Cleveland Clinic. By the time they performed an MRI of my abdomen to get a better look at the gland and tumor, it was September. I was referred to a oncologist who performed a biopsy of the tumor (which I found out after the fact is the LAST thing you want to do in my case). I was told the tumor was benign but when I asked the oncologist (Dr McGarry) what I should do now, I was told "I don't know. It's not cancer so I'm out of the picture". Fortunately, I was referred to the Carling Adrenal Center and Dr. Carling and scheduled surgery to have it removed on Dec. 15, 2021. Dr Carling performed a 'mini back scope' procedure and I was home the following day. Other than the expected soreness from the procedure, I was up and back to the majority of my normal routine within a week. Recently, I had a question as to my Cortisol production and the hydrocortisone steroids I had been prescribed post op. Dr Carling, himself, called me back with a day or two and answered my questions and put me at ease.

I unequivocally and without reservation highly recommend Dr Carling for anything that has to do with the adrenals. There is no better Dr. in the country (if not the world) who is as highly educated and knowledgable on the adrenals.

Dr. Carling and staff are truly the most informed, professional and dedicated Adrenal Specialists and team! I was well cared for from the weeks before surgery through before and after surgery. I highly recommend this Doctor, located at the Carling Adrenal Center, in Tampa Fl., if you or someone you know are having Adrenal issues. I had a tumor located on my left Adrenal Gland. Two days after surgery, I am already feeling 80% better than pre surgery. Best of luck to everyone going through these problems.

Six months after my super-successful robotic total hysterectomy for uterine serous/clear cell cancer at Daytona’s Halifax Hospital with Dr. Kelly Molpus, I checked in for a “suspicious mass” adrenalectomy at Tampa’s Carling Adrenal Center. I wasn’t nervous. - Not with adrenal specialist Tobias Carling, M.D., PhD, FACS as my chosen surgeon. Yet just as I was going under for removal of what hopefully wasn’t a metastatic tumor showing up on scans (it wasn’t), I felt a hand from one of Dr. Carling’s OR team slip into mine. Talk about the power of touch … that sweet gesture made an indelible impression, heralding attentive care received from Carling Center staffers throughout my 24-hour stay.

Back when Dr. Carling’s ever-expanding, fact-packed website first came to my attention, I was thunderstruck by this sentence: “We don’t mess around.” Nearly 20 years ago my daughter — after enduring seemingly endless medical diagnostic Tom-foolery — had learned of her bilateral adrenal tumors causing Cushings. Given her experience, my cancer concerns and my age (then 74), I knew Dr. Carling was for me. … And was he ever, complete with presentation of a postcard of my tumor during our post-op debriefing, also attended by my Gemini birthday buddy, Meredith LaRue, APRN. The Carling Adrenal Center’s gleaming new surgical facility, with giant TVs in patient rooms, is icing on the cake. For anyone with adrenal issues, I recommend consulting with Dr. Carling in person, or by phone (as I did), no matter where you live. Recovery took only a pain-free day or two, and six months after my MBSA mini-back surgery, I feel fabulous … better than I have in ages. Thank you, Dr. Carling, and wonderful nursing staff.

I was amazed at the kind, caring and most of all knowledge, compassion and understanding of what I had been thru. Dr Carling and his entire staff from start to finish has left me with renewed faith in the medical field. A state of the art facility. I am truly blessed and forever grateful.

I can’t begin to put into words the incredible experience I received from this center. I have been dealing with this adrenal issue since 2017 - no-one would listen they all diagnosed me with anxiety disorder, slap a bandaid on me, send me home. I work in an Operating Room setting, my knowledge is wide and I still had trouble as a regular person would, trying to explain the way I’ve felt - at my place of work feeling sick everyday - Dr Tobias Carling and his staff from day one of meeting looked right at me and said don’t worry we know! I burst into tears after leaving the first meeting. I wasn’t crying for being upset I was crying to finally have someone listen to me and take me seriously. The surgery went smooth to remove my entire adrenal gland with the tumor. The staff from the front door all the way through the hospital to pre-post op and the nurses and anesthesiologist- CRNA are fabulous, very professional and very sweet they listen and check on you every minute but also with out disturbing you. It’s a wonderful hospital and a wonderful place if your feeling like I was lost and you need a specialist for adrenals please call them! I highly recommend Dr. Carling.

This is Patricia's Husband Tim. I don't have a Facebook account but felt my recent experience should be shared: Dr. Tobias Carling and the Hospital staff at the Endocrine Surgery Center in Tampa Florida, should be rated at the full number stars available. If there were 10 stars they should get a ten star rating. On August 23, Dr Carling preformed a Minimally Invasive Back Scope Adrenal Surgery or Mini-Posterior Retroperitoneal Scope Surgery on my right Adrenal Gland. The right Adrenal Gland is the most difficult and dangerous gland to operate on due to the number of blood vessels in the area of the Gland. He did it with precision and professionalism. He is certainly everything they say about him and more.

Not only is he the best, his whole staff and the staff at hospital staff, are incredible. I have been to 17 plus hospitals in the Country and the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery in Tampa Fl is by far the best I have ever seen. From Sara in Dr Carling’s staff, to Claudia in Scheduling, to Patricia at admitting, to Eileen and all the Nurses in the prep area, to the Anesthesiologist, Dr Shah, to the staff in the OR. To the nurses on the floor and of course Meredith and Dr Carling himself.

I give my whole-hearted thanks to the entire staff. They are wonderful. This was such a fantastic experience I almost want to come back for another one. Thank you, thank you all.

Dr. Carling performed my adrenalectomy on May 3, 2022, and I just cannot say enough about the positive experience I had with everybody on Dr. Carling’s team – their knowledge, expertise and availability are truly the epitome of what “service with excellence” should look like everywhere within our Health Care system. Everyone did a phenomenal job-- from Sara Fan, who orchestrated everything for me leading up to surgery, to working with Meredith LaRue, APRN, after surgery.

My situation was different than most patients. My tumor was discovered after having a PET scan to make sure that I had no positive Lymph Nodes 5 weeks after a hysterectomy. Until 10 days before my surgery, I had absolutely no symptoms. Nothing would have alerted my doctors to look for this tumor.

After the PET scan revealed my tumor, my physicians suggested that we “watch” it for 6 months since I had just had a hysterectomy. The finding was labeled a “nodule” not a mass or a tumor. Thank goodness my Internist heard me when I shared my concerns. She ran my Metanephrine levels – which returned as over 2200.

I was referred to a surgeon in Louisville, KY, who wanted to remove the tumor by way of the Davinci Robotic surgical procedure. I was told that this “was the only procedure” and that surgery could take between 2 and 4 hours. I was heartbroken, I was still healing from this same surgical procedure as my hysterectomy 3 months earlier and now I was looking at another 12 weeks or longer to heal.

I immediately began my research. Thank goodness the search engine pulled up Dr. Carling and the Adrenal Center. The website was incredibly thorough! I reached out directly to the email address provided with a brief synopsis of my situation along with one question – would I be a candidate? To my surprise, within a few hours, I’d heard back from Dr. Carling himself. I was even more surprised that he responded from his personal email address and not just a general mailbox. In short, I knew I’d found my answer! We set up a time to talk and 3 weeks later I had the surgery. I flew home 3 days after surgery.

From the time I arrived at the hospital, 5:30 AM -- until my discharge the next morning – my experience was one that was (in a word) INCREDIBLE! The process moved seamlessly – never once did I wait in one area to be processed to the next area. The entire surgical team played a role in my pre surgery process, having conversations with me (and my sister) that shared concern about me as a person, not just medical/surgical pre-op questions. My sister said that from the time I was wheeled away for surgery, until Dr. Carling called her to share that I was in recovery and that my surgery had been a success, took only 44 minutes. Again, INCREDIBLE!!

I’m so glad that I didn’t wait the 6 months to do more testing on my tumor. As it turned out, from the last MRI scan ordered by my physician in KY, until the time I had it removed was 9 weeks, and my tumor had grown more than one centimeter. I had an aggressive tumor. It’s my belief, had I waited the 6 months to test further, I would have had a much different outcome.

I can never thank Dr. Carling and his staff enough for all that they have done for me. The words "Thank You" just don't seem enough.

Self-verified family member of Dr. Tobias Carling's patient - Posted on June 15, 2022.

I would like to add a family member perspective to those who are researching the Carling center.

My sister was recently diagnosed with a pheochromocytoma, a diagnosis that I had never heard of or encountered in my life. Shortly after diagnosis, my sister called me, ELATED about some news that she had found “ONLINE, that specializes in this condition.” Naturally, I had my concerns with treatment being discovered online. So I began my “3 AM” searches of my own and was impressed with what I learned…but still, the idea of leaving our community and support center alarmed me. My sister persisted and continued her research. She absolutely believed that this was the “Real Deal” and that Dr. Carling was the physician to help her. I am so thankful my sister took this opportunity.

The experience with Dr. Carling and his team was amazing! From his personal call to my sister and myself, to his overview of her condition and explanation of his procedure, (which included HOPE, as opposed to FEAR). I was on board!

I was so impressed with how the team looked out for me while my sister was in surgery. They made sure I was comfortable and constantly informed. They never kept me waiting or guessing while my sister was in surgery or while in recovery as to how she was doing.

Additionally, the hospital had incredibly comfortable accommodations to wait in with a cafeteria, offering with free food and beverages while I waited.

I felt like my sister was in competent, caring hands the entire time. She recently had another surgery (December 2021) and it was a total opposite experience. I felt panic and fear leaving her as she went to the operating room that day. With the Carling team, I felt at peace and I had no doubts that they were going to do the best for her.

I hope this will help you in choosing the care that you seek. Dr. Carling and his team were answers to prayer. They are Professional, Caring and EXPERTS in their field. Sandy Miller

We would like to thank, Dr. Carling, NP Meredith and his wonderful staff for a phenomenal experience, from the initial phone call until her discharge. My wife had a stroke on September 4, 2020. She is diabetic and has high blood pressure. Those two, in unison, created her stroke. We tried, heaven knows we tried, to keep her B/P down to no avail. After the stroke she was complaining about pain on her lower left side of her back. I took her to the ER and she had an ultrasound. They found a 2.8cm tumor in her adrenal gland. The ER doctor asks us to follow up with her primary doctor. I took the initiative to read up on the adrenal gland. As I was reading, I came upon Dr. Carling's name. After reading the information on his website I knew that he was the surgeon to remove her tumor. We went to Tampa, Florida from California and the rest is history. Her B/P is now normal and she is off the B/P meds. Wish I would have known this before her stroke. In closing, if ever you're in need of an adrenal gland surgeon, Dr. Carling is your doctor. Dr. Tobias Carling: continue to do what you do best. God Bless you and your wonderful staff. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I recently found myself at the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery after being referred by my Endocrinologist. I ended up having the right side of my thyroid accompanying lumps and 4 glands removed as well as my left side adrenal gland (5” mass) and a cyst on my back removed. I have had over 7 surgeries in my day and I have never been in a hospital with the professionalism of this one. Not only did the structure of the procedures and facilities impress me, but I could not find anyone who was not enjoying working there “and I tried”. The repeating theme from the staff was the approachability of the doctors, and how that was the difference in were they had worked before. From a patient stand point, Dr. Carling and Dr. Walsh went over and above in answering my questions and staying in contact before the surgeries. I explained my low tolerance to anesthesia, so the anesthesiologists spent the necessary time to understand my uniqueness and did a phenomenal job. If at all possible, this is the place to go. Don’t settle for less than the best. /Pastor Tim

On May 31st, 2022 I had surgery performed by Dr. Carling. I suffer from Cushings Syndrome - adrenal gland. I had surgery performed in November of 2021 by another surgeon that was not successful; I was actually made worse. I met with Dr. Carling after he reviewed all of my records. Surgery was scheduled and WOW what a difference!! Dr. Carling is a REAL expert! He and his staff (Meredith LaRue, APRN) are phenomenal professionals and humans! I highly recommend Dr. Carling! I already feel healing on this recovery journey.

Dear Dr Carling, NP Meredith and the rest of the team at the Carling Adrenal Center,

My daughter Brooke and I would like to thank you for the exceptional care you recently provided her. This was our family’s second experience with this group of specialized endocrine doctors. Four years ago, we both had parathyroid surgery performed by Dr Parrack at the Norman Parathyroid Center, which is now combined with the Carling Adrenal Center. When we finally found the likely cause of the seizure like episodes that have plagued my daughter’s life for the past three years, an adrenal mass, I didn’t hesitate a second before contacting Dr Carling based on our past experiences. When I reached out initially, Dr Carling personally replied to me and put me at ease from the start. We traveled from upstate NY and although it wasn’t easy with all of my daughter’s medical complexities, it was well worth it! Nobody likes to have surgery but when it’s necessary you want specialized doctors and support staff involved who all work together at a specialized center that can offer you the best practices available to ensure the best possible outcomes! Everyone on the team, from the minute you make contact to become a patient until you are discharged, go out of their way to make a difficult situation much easier.

Dr. Carling and his team are true professionals, that offers care not just with their heads but with their hearts. I was misdiagnosed for more than 16 years until only a few weeks ago when another episode of heart pounding and a feeling of suffocation forced me to the emergency room by ambulance. Everyone's first thoughts were that I was probably having some kind of heart failure. This time however after a series of tests and scans it was discovered that there was a large mass an my right adrenal gland, the source of most of my health issues for more than 16 years. While going through the process to remove this monster, I felt the need to find a surgeon that I could truly trust based on expertise, experience and empathy (heart).

My desperate search took me to the Carling Adrenal Center in Tampa Fl. Just reading the information on their website made me started feeling hopeful and a great sense of comfort. Then I had the face to face consultation with Dr. Carling and I knew for sure in my heart that he was the person I should have do my surgery. This is day number 6 since the surgery was done and I'm recovering nicely and are already experiencing lots of positive benefits, like normal bp and heart rate without the need for medications. At the hospital for endocrine surgery (HCA West Tampa hospital) were my surgery was done, I will describe it with one sentence: This facility is marked by excellence in every capacity!! My family and I thank you all so much for your exceptional care.

It is now a week since my surgery, and I feel better than I have felt in years. My blood pressure has dropped 40 points and continues a downward trend. I had no pain at all which speaks to Dr. Carling's skill as a gifted surgeon. The facility and the equipment are state of the art. The staff is exceptional. I was a bit embarrassed to have them get me coffe, water, etc., but they insisted that I allow them to do their jobs. Perhaps the most satisfying aspect of this surgery is my once apprehensive wife's admission that I made the right decision. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

So good it's hard to believe it can be true!, but it is! I had surgery at Carling Adrenal center April 12th. I've waited a bit to write this review because I am still in disbelief at how impressive this whole experience was and was waiting for the 'other shoe to drop'. But it never did. My journey to Dr. Carling was, like many a unique experience. I was diagnosed 10 years ago with a Pheochromocytoma on my right Adrenal but for some reason it was never followed up on and was forgotten about. In January it was re-discovered quite be accident during a routine abdominal ultrasound scan as part of my Bi-annual health check in January. I did research and quickly found the Carling Adrenal Center, I read reviews on the Carling website and ultimately concluded that it could not be as good as it claimed to be. My wife and and I live in Hong Kong and had the good fortune to be referred to the best Endocrine surgeon in Hong Kong and one of the best in Asia. We were convinced that I was in good hands with this surgeon but the Lord had other plans. I asked by Hong Kong surgeon about the Mini Back Scope Surgery that I had read about on the Carling Website and he said that he went thru the belly because the to go thru the back requires more experience than he had. He explained that my tumor was producing hormones that was causing episodes of Hypertensive Crisis in what was otherwise normal blood pressure. He wanted an effective alpha block before surgery. Ultimately I had to go on Phenoxabenzamine 5 caps per day. This was costing me about $19 USD per cap and causing dizzy spells and still wasn't really controlling the hypertensive episodes well. What brought me back to Dr. Carling was that when my medicine regimen was deemed to be sufficient for surgery on April 12th in Hong Kong my Surgeons office sent me an Email says surgery would be scheduled for April 28TH! Immediately I started looking for alternatives. On Tuesday I send my first Email to Dr. Carling asking about cost of Surgery and rather I could have it done on April 12 (only a week later to take advantage of the Alpha block). I was shocked to learn that the cost of the surgery would be 1/2 what it would have cost me to do it in Hong Kong even if you included the substantial travel costs. Further, I learned that Dr. Carling seldom uses an Alpha Block prior to surgery due to the short time under Anesthesia and his team's experience dealing with Pheos. Ultimately I spend thousands of dollars in Hong Kong on Meds, appointments unnecessary tests and was prepared to spend much more on an inferior more expensive surgical procedure. I have no doubt that my surgeon in Hong Kong is one of the best but the experience that the surgical team at Carling Adrenal center can leverage makes it all worthwhile.

I would not recommend rushing surgery this much it's probably not necessary if you talk with Dr. Carling. Overall my recovery has been exceptional. I did have some normal shoulder pain after surgery which is normal referred gas pains but it only lasted about 36 hours and was managed by pain meds. 1 week after surgery I ran 5K on a treadmill at pre-surgical pace with no discomfort and 2+ week out from surgery I feel better than ever. I had essential tremor before the surgery and could not even eat or write properly. Post surgery that's gone! I'm excited to check my blood pressure, sugar levels and Lipids to see if those too have been cured! Overall the trip to Tampa was extremely worth it!

Dr. Tobias Carling knew exactly why my uncontrolled BP had been regularly in the 200 range. I had been to 2 Endocrinologists associated with 2 major , very well-known hospitals and they did not seem to think the nodules on my left adrenal gland were related to my severe high blood pressure issue. I’m thin, had been on a very low-salt diet, plant-based diet, sugar-free diet, and a fat/oil free diet for a long time. I exercised 3-5 times a week. No drinking nor smoking as well! I was frantic, fearing each day would be my last as a result of a stroke or heart attack and my kidneys were at risk as well. My daughter found Dr. Carling! I now have relatively normal BP, I feel 40 years younger, friends tell me I look younger as well. Thank you Dr. Carling for giving me a new life!

Wow! I have read so many wonderful testimonies about Dr Carling and now I have my own. Like so many I have read I have been dealing with Conns Syndrome for 24 years and never knew that was what was wrong with me. Soooo many various doctors giving me different cocktails of meds to handle my high Bp and migraines without success and full of side effects. Not until I went into the ER twice in a two day period for stroke level BP and severe temors at the beginning of the December did I finally start to head in the path to true recovery. After a myriad of specialists with no answers finally someone did a blood test showing I have primary hyperalderstone. So I started researching and God lead me to find Dr Carlings website. I knew reading through all the info this was me and this is where I needed to go. The consult was emotional for me as I had recently been told I was chasing down a rabbit hole and Dr Carling caring and confidently told me no you are not and yes you will be cured. What a Life Giving surgery this has been for me. Immediately in the recovery room my BP was at levels I have never been at even with 400 mg of Spirolactone and another med. I was prepared for a few weeks to see a difference due to the additional amount of alderstrone in my system and was so happy for the immediate results. To think I will be able to live and function normally without the ridiculous high BP, without Migraines, without Insomia, and finally be able to loose weight is a huge blessing. I am forever Thankful for Dr Carling and his staff and the gift God has given him to cure and provide a positive life change for many people. ❤️❤️❤️

I wish to thank Dr. Carling and his very professional team for the way I was treated during my March 30, 2022 Adrenal surgery. From check-in before 5:30 a.m., to my Mini Back Scope Adrenalectomy, to recovery room and back to a private room before noon, everything was expedited. In less than 30 minutes Dr. Carling eliminated my adrenal issues that have festered for most of my last 20 plus years. I was tentatively diagnosed with Primary Hyperaldosteronism in 2007 and was being treated with several medications. Recently in late December, 2021 my spiking blood pressures and sickening aldosterone waves became much more pronounced and debilitating. I was without a GP or specialist in my rural Virginia area. Searching the Internet for a specialist, there was the "Renowned in the World" and the "Best in the USA", Dr. Tobias Carling, an answer to my prayers. We contacted his website and Allison Kierkegaard led us through the information documentation process. Angie Morrissey, Scheduling Manager, took us through the set up for surgery. Wendy Feliciano, Scheduling Coordinator, set up our phone consultation directly with Dr. Carling. He was extremely personable and gave me the choice to continue as I was on the medications or I could choose the quality of life he could offer by arthroscopically removing my left adrenal gland and its nodule. We booked his surgery for March 30th. We drove to Tampa, where we were welcomed into one of the cooperating area motel suites, were picked up at 5 a.m. surgery morning by the hospital shuttle and checked into HCA FL West Tampa Hospital (editorial note: Ths is the same as HFES = Hospital for Endocrine Surgery).

Following my surgery Dr. Carling visited me in my room twice and his top-notch assistant, Meredith LaRue, visited me three times. They even presented me with a photo of my removed adrenal gland including the benign nodule. In between visits, all of the floor team and staff were excellent at meeting my needs. My wife was even allowed to spend the night in my room in a sleep recliner to ease my anxiety. We thank Dr. Carling from the bottom of our hearts for the Miracle he has given me! May he be able to continue helping others for many years the way he has helped me! And may the Lord continue to Bless Dr. Carling and everyone on his staff and team!

I am one week post-op Mini Back Scope Partial Adrenalectomy with Dr. Carling and I cannot thank him and his staff enough! Start to finish, five stars! From his pre-op nurse Barbara, to his NP Meredith, to the good doctor himself. Dr. Carling is as advertised...the best adrenal surgeon in the country. I was discharged 24 hours later with no need for crisis meds as my adrenals were awake and functioning properly. One of the reasons I chose Dr. Carling was I have bilateral adrenal tumors. An adenoma on the right, which was functioning and the source of my Subclinical Cushing's Syndrome, and a myelolipoma on the left. He removed the adenoma leaving part of my right adrenal gland in place. This was important to me in case, someday in the future, I have to have the myelolipoma removed. My insurance in Michigan refused to pay so I went out of pocket. Best investment ever in my future!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I'm 61 years old and type 2. We traveled from Dallas, TX to Tampa, FL for my April 5, 2022 adrenal surgery. I had done my research and knew Dr. Carling was the best of the best for this procedure. That was confirmed every step of the way through my pre-opt, operation, and post-opt experience. His team, from the people who greeted me when I came through the doors of the Endocrine hospital to the gentleman who wheeled me out the doors again, were topnotch in every way. The facility is clean and serene, which since my tumor had been causing me anxiety for years was a wonderfully beneficial for me. I felt as relaxed as I could be before the procedue and loads better after. The nurses and other care-providers were caring and experienced and thoughtful. I felt like I was in the very best hands possible. It's been a little more than a week since my surgery and I'm back in Texas and feeling good. Many thanks to Dr Carling and his team.

I have had a tumor on my left adrenal gland for about 5 years. My endocrinologist recommended me to Dr. Carling to have the Adrenalectomy performed by the best surgeon in the USA/world. I traveled 2 and a half hours away for the consultation and then the MBS- Mini Back Scope Adrenalectomy surgery on 3/9/2022. I had sub clinical Cushing syndrome, heart palpitations (controlled with medication), slightly elevated blood pressure and the tumor was 1.8 cm when it was removed. A few hours after surgery my blood pressure was down to 99/59. It has stabilized to 102/72 and no longer need the meds for the heart palpitations! I lost about 6 pounds and looking forward to losing more. Dr. Carling was so patient with me waiting for any questions me or my husband had and answering them with great knowledge! I wanted to also thank Meredith LaRue and Caridad Medlock for taking the time to follow up with me to see how I was doing in the days that followed the surgery. The hospital was good, the nurses were great, and they had good food as well. I would recommend Dr. Carling and the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery to anyone who needs this procedure.

In March 2022, I travelled from Australia for surgery with Dr. Carling, to remove a tumor from my adrenal gland via the mini back scope (MBSA). I reserve the highest praise for Dr. Carling; indeed, for such an accomplished man, he is remarkably humble. I self-referred to Dr. Carling because I was not getting answers from local endocrinologists. Dr. Carling treated me with the utmost respect and dignity, and never made me feel embarrassed about my BMI or my blood pressure etc. Prior to the surgery, I had put on 120 pounds (55 Kg) and had been unable to lose weight for over ten years, regardless of how much I dieted or exercised. My BMI was over 40 and I was miserable because I simply could not lose weight no matter how hard I tried. By the 8th day after surgery, I had lost 6.8 pounds (3.1 Kg) without even starting my exercising. I stood on the scale and have never been so astonished in my entire life. In fact, I burst into tears. In the years leading up to surgery, I had experienced multiple DVT’s and was genuinely worried that I would have a heart attack. Prior to the surgery, my blood pressure was 170/100. At discharge, my blood pressure was 112/71. What a gift! Before surgery, I was so sick. Within days of surgery, I felt 100 times better. I now have hope for the future for the first time in years. I am so glad I came to Dr. Carling; it is the best thing I ever did. I also like that Dr. Carling has a streamlined process, meaning that all the groundwork and consultation was conducted whilst I was still in Australia. When I went to Tampa, I was literally only going there for the operation. Special mention to Dr. Carling’s team at the Carling Adrenal Centre, and also to the team at the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery – they are great people who helped me every step of the way. Ten stars!

Last year on April 2021, I was diagnosed with Cushing's Syndrome which meant I had tumors on my adrenal glands, unfortunately in my case it was on both sides. This was a complete shock for my family & I as we had never heard about Cushing's before. Thank God, I had a good Endocrinologist who diagnosed me right away. She then advised me that surgery would be the best option. My family then quickly started researching the best surgeons in Arizona as that is where we live and found a few in our area. After consulting with multiple doctors in Arizona, I was told bad news that the tumors on both Adrenal glands are so big that they would have to remove BOTH glands during surgery. Which then meant I would be on steroids for the rest of my life. My daughter and husband did not agree on that and were hopeful that there would be other options. They then started to research day and night for the best surgeon for Adrenal Tumors. After a few days, they found Dr. Carling in Tampa Florida and after reading so many wonderful reviews at first they were a little skeptical about Dr. Carling as he only had 5 star reviews and amazing words that were said about him so they couldn’t believe it and were certain it couldn’t be true. But you know what? That was the TRUTH. My family then decided for me to reach out to Dr. Carling. After my daughter called and left a voicemail she received a call right away from Dr. Carling. After my daughter explained my story, he asked for medical records to be mailed to his office. After reviewing the documents, he called my daughter and explained that I needed to have surgery on both sides a few weeks apart and that he would do his best to preserve as much of the glands as possible. I was then scheduled for the first surgery on August 2021 in Tampa,Florida. I had my surgery on Tuesday and by Friday the same week I was back home & feeling very good. In October 2021 I was scheduled for my second surgery, I had surgery on Tuesday and again by Friday I was back home. This time around he did have to prescribe hydrocortisone. In December 2021, after having labs done with my Endocrinologist in Arizona she decided to discontinue my hydrocortisone because she said that my Adrenal Glands woke up and have started working therefore I don’t need it anymore. This was great news! Dr. Carling with his experience was able to save almost 50% of both of my glands! Thank you Dr. Carling for saving my life, Thank you for taking the time to respond back to us whenever we needed you, Thank you for being so kind and treating your patients with professionalism and genuinely caring. From the beginning you have been so helpful and reassuring and made sure to educate me and my family about my condition so that we fully understand. Please, people if you have this kind of problem please contact Dr. Carling in Tampa Florida! I know for many who don’t live in Florida its not easy but if you have the possibility please make this sacrifice for yourself it is WORTH IT! From my experience I can WHOLE HEARTEDLY say Dr. Carling is an Angel walking this earth. He is wonderful. Thank you Dr. Carling!

Dr. Carling, Dr. Shah (anesthesia), Meredith LaRue, and staff are truly amazing. I traveled to Florida from California for a 14 minute Mini Back Scope Adrenalectomy (MBSA) for a 1.7 cm aldosterone producing adrenal adenoma in March of 2022. After suffering with high blood pressure, fatigue, headaches, muscle weakness, etc. for well over 5 years, I am now symptom free. Minutes before the operation my BP reading was 179/109, and now, two weeks post-op, it is down to 110/68. The support, knowledge, patience, love, and elevated care you receive at Carling Adrenal Center is unmatched. You really should look no further when it comes to your adrenal health.

Self-verified patient of Dr. Tobias Carling - Posted on February 10, 2022. Thank you Dr. Carling and team. I had my surgery in February 2022 with Dr. Carling at the new endocrine surgery hospital. I was supposed to go in for an adrenalectomy; the lab writeups from my previous two CT scans (at Tower Radiology, both of which were incorrect), said that the mass was located on the adrenal glad. When I came in for surgery, there was a CT scan that morning, and the mass was actually found to be next to my adrenal, not attached to it. Of course Dr. Carling was able to remove it in a minimally invasive way. Before going to surgery, I met with Dr. Carling and read the information on his website; I really feel like he gave me the information I needed to feel comfortable going into the procedure and understand what would happen during and after the surgery. I stayed the night at the hospital for monitoring and so they could test that everything was working properly as expected. Dr. Carling followed up with me several times in the hospital after my surgery, and I received a couple pictures of the mass they removed. The hospital staff was also great all around - the nurses (pre-and post-op), nurse assistants, and even the lab personnel who came to draw blood (several other times I've had my blood drawn at other places, they seem to have trouble, so I was expecting this to be a pain again; but this gentleman Paolo drew it three separate times so quick and painlessly). I am thankful to have been referred to Dr. Carling and have my surgery here; he and everyone on his team has a healthy amount of experience under their belts, they all understand what they are doing and how to care for their patients. I highly recommend Dr. Carling to anybody who needs to undergo adrenal surgery.

It was during this consultation I knew Doctor Carling was the one I wanted to help me. He helped me understand Conn's Syndrome and what my next steps would be to help cure me. Within two months of speaking with him I flew from Maine to Tampa and underwent surgery. From Doctor Carling to the hospital staff I understood what would be happening every step of the way. The nurses at this hospital were amazing and helped ease my nerves. It is clear Doctor Carling is in the right specialty and really cares about all of his patients, the nurses at the hospital told me wonderful stories about things he has done for his patients in the past. A special Thank you to Allison who answered all of mine and my husbands questions along the way without making us feel like we were a bother. Thank you for helping me on the path back to normal!

Self-verified patient of Dr. Tobias Carling - Posted on December 12, 2021. I can not thank Dr. Carling enough for taking the time to analyze my files and for not hesitating to come to my rescue in my time of need. Dr. Carling takes the initiative to treat the patient and the symptoms. I did my research and found Dr. Carling. I was apprehensive at first because it sounded too good to be true. Dr. Carling and I spoke over the phone, discussed the issues I was having and developed a game plan. I traveled to Tampa, Florida from Kentucky. Dr. Carling and his team run a very professional organization. Everyone that I encountered was very professional, pleasant and knowledgeable. From sending in my papers, all the way up to the surgery and follow-up, the entire process was wonderful. It’s very refreshing in today’s society to work with a team who knows their job and performs at an exceptional level. I never found myself guessing what’s next. They walked me step by step through the process. I suffered for years with high blood pressure, tachycardia, flank pain, sweating, nausea, bloating, severe hemiplegic migraines and flight or fight responses. I’ve been to many doctors in my area seeking treatment for these symptoms and I received no solutions. I was having multiple attacks a day. Dr. Carling and his team were so amazing before, during, and after the surgery to the point where they had me up walking within hours after my surgery. The entire experience was beyond exceptional. I woke up the next morning amazed at the wonderful feeling of calm that I felt for the first time in a very long time. I’m now at day 27 after the surgery and I have never felt better. Everyone who sees me tells me about how much better I look and they can see this new sense of calm I now possess. Thanks to Dr. Carling and his team, my family and I had the best Thanksgiving we’ve had in years and are looking forward to a wonderful Christmas. Dr. Carling was the warrior I had been seeking.

Self-verified patient of Dr. Tobias Carling - Posted on November 22, 2021. I recently traveled from Texas to Tampa Florida at my own expense after doing extensive research concerning the medical procedures I needed. After reviewing Dr Carling and his Adrenal Center, I was convinced this is where I was going. The doctors in Austin had never heard of his technique (MBSA). Upon arrival I was welcomed and treated with the utmost respect. Before surgery Dr Carling described the procedure in detail giving me the confidence I needed to rest at ease. Dr Carling and the staff at Memorial Hospital could not have been more caring and attentive to my needs. In addition. the entire nursing team from surgery to ICU to recovery were fantastic. I would highly recommend Dr Carling and his team.

Self-verified patient of Dr. Tobias Carling - Posted on November 19, 2021. I went from Southport, NC to the Carling Adrenal Center in Tampa because of the excellent reviews I read. I previously had Renal Cell Carcinoma in 2008 and 2012, resulting in the removal of my left kidney. In December 2020 my CT scan showed a small growth on my right adrenal gland, and I was worried about the possible spread of my previous cancer. My local surgeon did not give me much confidence in being able to treat this. But Dr. Carling treats diseases of the adrenal glands every week, and does it successfully. On October 19, 2021, Dr. Carling removed my adrenal tumor and was able to save 30% of the adrenal gland. Pathology showed the tumor was the same as my prior kidney cancer. He used the Mini Back Scope technique and I had no pain after the procedure at all. I was back on the road to Southport, NC, in just a few days. Dr. Carling and his staff did an excellent job of welcoming me to their Center, keeping me informed of every step, and following up with me after the surgery.

Self-verified patient of Dr. Tobias Carling - Posted on October 2, 2021. Dr. Carling and everyone you will deal with at The Carling Adrenal Center are very professional. Very kind! Their only care is your comfort and well being. They address your every need, and concern. They do so much of this. They know what you will need before you ask. The staff at the hospital all work to make you comfortable as they can. Surgery is never fun. If you have to have it done. You will never find a better more caring team! I suggest this way of surgery, over the regular way, 100 percent. I was sweeping off my back pouch today. 3 days after my operation. I am going back to work, next week. I would not be doing that if I had my surgery done the way my Doctors wanted to do my surgery! Dr. Carling takes very good care of his patients, I can not say enough good things about my experience here! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! I would give them a 10 star if i could!

Self-verified patient of Dr. Tobias Carling - Posted on Aug 26, 2021. Dr. Carling removed my right adrenal glad about six months ago when I was 47 years old. In my early thirties, my blood pressure had begun to rise. I was not overweight and I exercised regularly so my doctors always told me to eat less salt. The problem was, I ate very little salt as I stayed away from processed foods and foods with hidden salt such as bread. As I was fairly active, playing sports regularly, I figured the blood pressure rise was due to genetics. Five years ago, when my blood pressure was in the 170s at a doctor visit, the doctor decided to check my potassium levels and noticed it was low, a combination that is a strong indicator of hyperaldosteronism. I should have been screened at that time. However, at the time I didn't know that, and apparently, my PCP didn't know much about it either, as the only action was to prescribe potassium supplements. Last year, my new PCP identified the possible hyper-aldosterone diagnosis and we started down the diagnostic path that verified an aldosterone producing tumor (actually two) on my right adrenal gland. Dr. Carling and his team, in a timely manner, review my material and scheduled me for the mini back scope. I considered other surgeons but I chose Dr. Carling because his surgery takes less time, more directly access the gland, and he performs the surgery himself. Other facilities wanted to go in through the front and shove around a bunch of organs to get to the adrenal gland using inexperience surgeons. Selecting Dr. Carling was an easy decision, especially after interacting with him and getting to experience his compassionate personality. Six months ago, I had surgery mid-day and later that evening I was briskly walking around the hospital floor. I was blessed with a quick recovery which I attribute to the mini-back scope rather than surgery going in from the front. After about a week, I was back to jogging for exercise and the small amount of soreness from surgery was gone. Prior to surgery, I was on three blood pressure medications and a potassium supplement. Just prior to surgery, I went off the potassium. After surgery, over the course of a few months, I weaned off all the blood pressure meds! I am thankful that Dr. Carling put forth such effort studying to become a doctor and then perfect the mini back scope. I and my family have been blessed by his knowledge and experience. Thank you Dr. Carling and team!

By the time that my tumor was discovered it was the size of a cantalope! Over the years 7 doctors and two hospitals missed it! Dr. Carling had to take it out through my stomach since it was so big! But he did an excellent job and I had no complications. Thank you, Dr. Carling!

Self-verified patient of Dr. Tobias Carling - Posted on Aug 11, 2021. Dr. Carling saved my life! I had bilateral adrenal tumors causing symptoms for years that most physicians blew off until it was found that the tumor on my right adrenal gland was big and possibly cancerous. A friend of mine gave me the name of Dr. Carling who contacted me himself the same day I uploaded my information, he also worked to collaborate labs with my primary doctor and was able to diagnose my Cushing’s syndrome. We decided to only do a right adrenalectomy at the time to spare me from having to be on steroids for the rest of my life and it was the best decision. My left adrenal tumor is being monitored by an endocrinologist he referred me to in my area and if needed down the road Dr. Carling will definitely be the only surgeon I will go to…best doctors and staff around…thank you for giving me my life back!!

Before my surgery on July 27th, my daughter was doubtful of the uniformly high rating of Dr Carling, no one can be that good, she said. Well, I can tell the reader: He's All That, and more. I'm in awe of this man. Different people have different experiences with any medical procedure, I was up and walking 8 hours after the surgery. Reader, you're in good hands.

It took a little while for my blood pressure to stabilize because I had this Conn's syndrome, but I'm happy to report that my blood pressure is now 106/87. Sometimes it is a lot lower on the diastolic and that's all that's just on 2.5 milligrams of amlodipine a day. I'm very very happy. I basically just wanted to tell you thank you for the surgery. I definitely appreciate it. I do thank you for the surgery that you did for me. All right. Have a great day.

I had seen numerous Doctors in the past two year regarding my symptoms of anxiety, depression, hyper-tension and high cortisol levels without any diagnosis. I was referred to Dr Tobias Carling at the Carling Adrenal Clinic, Tampa FL. Dr Carling confirmed a Subclinical Cushing (SCS) diagnosis with a 2cm tumor on my left adrenal gland increasing my cortisol levels causing the SCS symptoms I was experiencing. With the diagnosis, I had an adrenalectomy of my left adrenal gland on June 15, 2021 at Tampa Bay Memorial Hospital performed by Dr Carling. Within one week after the operation most all of my symptoms are significantly reduced or eliminated. Dr Carling saved my life!

Partial Adrenalectomy Self-verified patient of Dr. Tobias J Carling - Posted on June 17th, 2019. I had a successful partial adrenalectomy with Dr. Carling at Yale New Haven Medical Center. Dr. Carling is one of the most high volume adrenal surgeons in the country. Research shows that higher volume adrenal surgeons have better success rates. Dr. Carling was a pioneer in doing rear approach laparoscopic adrenal surgery in the US. He trained with Dr. Walz in Germany who developed this specific surgery. This procedure allowed me a faster recovery with fewer risks of complications than other options. I had originally contacted Dr. Carling about finding a referral for another doctor closer to me on the West Coast. The local surgeon I consulted with was not confident about saving part of my adrenal as Dr. Carling was. Dr. Carling then set me up with his fabulous support staff who arranged everything for me to come to New Haven. I couldn't be more pleased with my experience with Dr. Carling and his team. I even went out and shot one of my best rounds of golf just 10 days after my surgery.

The day of surgery, he came to greet me before and then performed a wonderful surgery. You cannot even tell where the scar is. He is very thorough and has a wonderful bedside manner. I would recommend them wholeheartedly. Tina G. – Jul 22, 2019

Dr. Carling and his excellent team helped me deal with my diagnosis and surgery. He had the highest recommendations and I can see why. Medically he is beyond reproach and is well known for his excellent results, but he also took time to explain everything, was caring and took time with me, his staff were all there 100% to answer questions during the whole process. I am beyond pleased with how my otherwise traumatic experience (having cancer) went. LB in CT – Jul 07, 2018

Dr. Carling is a compassionate, highly skilled, knowledgeable and expert surgeon who takes the necessary time to care for and about his patient. Dr. Carling's Nursing Coordinator, Colleen Jannitto, RN is also exceptional. Her attention to detail, clinical expertise, organization and communication skills are commendable. Colleen assisted with every detail while providing reassurance, guidance and support from our first conversation to set up the appointment to checking on my care, progress and recovery after I returned home. Shelby McElrath Dr. Carling and his team were fantastic. Everyone was friendly, informative, highly competent, and went out of their way to make sure I was at ease. Ellin VanLeeuwen Dr. Tobias Carling was the most highly recommended surgeon by 2 endocrinologists I had appointments with. For good reason! I could not be happier with the pre-surgery discussion - thorough and answered all my questions. And the surgery was short, successful, and literally no after effects. Excellent physician. Excellent surgeon.

Cardiff Surf Kook I had a successful partial adrenalectomy with Dr. I even went out and shot one of my best rounds of golf just 10 days after my surgery.

joe mack Adrenal surgery perfectly done. The diagnosis and surgery saved my life. There is no other way to put it. I thought my life was over! I could not understand why 6 doctors in Fairfield Co CT (ONE OF WEALTHIEST CO IN USA) couldn't figure out what was wrong with me, Honorable mention to Dr Duben (endo) for sending me to Carling. It was a process for sure and Yale was great. Apparently paying $12,000.00 per yr for health insurance(1 person me), covers nothing unless you spend days and weeks fighting for every penny. Its absurd. But in the face of a total breakdown in the entire healthcare system Carling, Yale and Duben literally were the most professional Dr's and staff I have met on this journey towards wellness. Great Job!

Ellen Woodward Absolutely the best!  Thyroid and Adrenal Surgery 05/15/2019 & 06/05/19 Just a quick email to say thank you for everything regarding my two recent surgeries (thyroidectomy in May and left adrenalectomy in June). You are a gifted and skilled surgeon. My husband and I were very impressed with your expertise and confidence. We appreciated you taking the time to explain everything to us during the preops, after each surgery and at the post op appointments. I am so pleased with the outcome of both surgeries. My thyroid was extremely enlarged and I was having difficulty breathing, you did an amazing job removing it with minimal scarring and discomfort. It is wonderful to no longer deal with labored breathing or waking up at night gasping for air. Walking up one flight of stairs was a challenge for me. Three days after the surgery I did a six mile walk with my family on the rail trail by my house, it was such an achievement for me. Now I am active once again - walking, biking, swimming and enjoying it! The left adrenalectomy was a positive experience also and I healed quickly. I had some residual nerve pain but that went away just as you advised me it would. You and Dr. Brown and Colleen are an amazing team! (Yale Hospital is lucky to have each one of you as part of their team). Thanks again, Mary Clinton
